Southend BID are hosting 12 exciting events this Christmas, extending their seasonal offerings to further support Southend-on-Sea. Now, they are excitingly looking for artists and performers to get involved with the community’s festive celebrations.
Southend BID’s ‘Christmas in Southend’ events are meaningful for more than one reason; these celebrations will showcase local artists and performers throughout the town. As such, they are set to be not only fun, but supportive, highlighting the exceptional talents of Southend’s residents.
These upcoming events include an art trail, which will launch on the 20th November 2021 and be active until early January 2022, and a number of other creative projects. From busking opportunities to group performances, visitors will be invited to attend a wonderful variety of festive celebrations.
Southend BID’s art trail will allow visitors to follow a map and explore beautiful pieces of artwork throughout the Southend BID area. Its theme is ‘light’, with each piece of artwork mirroring this in some way. Therefore, local businesses and artists will be encouraged to ‘light up Southend’. However, this art trail is not limited to light installations specifically; any artist is welcome to apply.
Southend BID are now eagerly looking for applicants who would like to participate in their ‘Christmas in Southend’ events. These specific opportunities and their subsequent deadlines are as follows:
· Busking spots throughout the festive period: deadline to apply 1st November.
· ‘Light up Southend’ art trail: deadline to apply 15th October.
· Choir and group performances (including schools, dance schools, dramatic societies) throughout the festive period: deadline to apply 20th October.
The purpose of these events is clear: to celebrate the admirable talent that fills Southend’s community whilst creating unforgettable, heart-warming memories for visitors and local residents alike.
Discussing these events Southend BID’s decision to extend their Christmas offerings, Suzanne Gloyne, BID Manager, says:
‘Last year we were all restricted when it came to celebrating Christmas; it was an emotional, challenging time as we weren’t able to see our loved ones and faced ongoing restrictions. With that in mind, the entire Southend BID committee were determined to support our community by hosting an exciting series of Christmas events this year.
As we are known to be a wonderfully creative town, celebrating the talents of local artists and performers felt like the best way to enhance our Christmas events. We hope these celebrations will bring our community together and position Southend as an ideal Christmas destination this holiday season.’
Southend BID are looking for a wide range of performers and creatives to apply for these events; they hope to host diverse, varied performances that reflect the community’s endless talent. With applications, they therefore ask that entrants submit a hi-res headshot, image of their art work and/or a video of them performing with a short bio.
Applicants can expect to receive a response from Southend BID prior within 14 days of the closing deadlines. Further information regarding ‘Christmas in Southend’ will be issued in due course.
