The Southend Festival was a successful event that took place across July and August. A welcome addition to our events calendar, it celebrates the cultural offer in Southend, encompassing over 100 events within the art, music, literature, film, performance sectors and including Southend Pride, those taking place at over thirty-five BID businesses and within the public realm. It received considerable local press coverage - the Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE) for Southend Echo’s coverage of the festival, was a huge £23,883.
The Kids Chalk Fest had over 100 children taking part and the comedy programme, featuring celebrity names such as Hal Cruttenden and literary event with guest speaker, Jack Monroe among others were also very well attended. Our artwork pieces by locals John Bulley and Scotty B and London-based Mr Cenz were highly praised and shared abundantly across social media. In terms of analytics, in July, 11,500 visits were made to the dedicated event page on Visit Southend which received 155,000 visits in total. We have lots of plans to add to our events calendar, including entertainment and activity in the High Street and extending certain parts that were a great success.
The Italian Festival and Supercar Parade took place on Saturday 1st September. Attended by thousands, the High Street had high footfall and was very busy, with people making their way into the area throughout the day and some businesses reporting a significant increase in trade. In August, over 3,300 visits were made to the dedicated event page on Visit Southend which received over 139,000 visits in total.
